Keep your head up kid!

February 9, 2010 · Leave a Comment

It’s been a dismal start to my week (at best), actually it started last week, but it really doesn’t matter, it all starts to blend after awhile, and starts to get blurry. Don’t get me wrong, I was super happy we had sunshine and ok weather this past weekend, but I had no great plans, nor any expendable income to do anything. By the way, it’s been absolutely torturous to receive the “New Markdowns” email from Shopbop this morning! Ugh!

Well for those who can, check it out and get something good! But keep me in your thoughts! ;)

Between applying for jobs, doing (and re-doing) my resume, picking and choosing which bills to pay (now can I afford a late fee on the Citicard, or should I not pay my student loan for the second month in a row?), tackling the “no end in sight” of clutter that has accumulated on my desk (Will calls it my igloo of paper), and to top it all off me hunting down that “ever- so precious“, and apparently non-existent fax number I needed to submit my partial unemployment claim, it’s undeniably been a few days of misery for me (I eventually gave up, and mailed in my claim)!

But a-last, there were a few things in these past few days that have managed to put a smile on my face, and if I was lucky made me laugh out loud! :D

1. Fist-pumping in the Anthro dressing room with my Cuzzo (a.k.a Angela Grace), after we both put on items of clothing that fit like a glove and made us feel FAB! Of course we couldn’t afford to purchase them, but at least for that moment we felt that exuberant amount of happiness that only fashion and beautiful clothing can make happen. By the way, we have been stalking the Anthro website every day to make sure our items are still there and in stock in our size, until we are able to pull the trigger!

I know it’s total torture.

2. Receiving this reply comment from Carey @ Corks and Caftans. Love this girl. She is truly one-of-a-kind, totally her own person, thoughtful, helpful, and is an AMAZING writer (and her husband Rob isn’t a bad photographer either, wink * wink * ;) check out these photos he took. Gorgeous.). Definitely check out her blog! She is the one who inspired me to create my own blog.

2b. Receiving permission from Carey to get this YSL Arty Ovale ring in Coral for my birthday next month. It must be CORAL (Don’t worry Carey I’ve got yo’ back)! Yea I know, I have no $$ to even think about purchasing it, but I’ll be slipping Will a short & sweet birthday wishlist with bold font and plenty of asterisks next to this!

3. Eating Apple Jacks cereal. I think it brought me and Will back to our childhood! I don’t even remember the last time I even had a kid’s cereal?

{image via google images search}

4. Watching the Ellen Degeneres show (Man, I heart day-time television). It’s hilarious when she scares her guests and plays the question/answer game where she can make them fall through the trap door if they answer the question wrong.

She totally gets a kick out of doing that. You can totally tell.

So keep your heads up everyone!

The weekend is just around the corner, and Valentines Day is on it’s way! ;)

Keeping it “Light”

When it’s the season of “black”, it’s nice to see the lighter side of the colder season. She is absolutely adorable, from her “I just rolled out of bed this way” locks to her cute & dainty lace shift dress.

What’s funny is I first saw her on Lookbook.nu and added her to my “Looks I Like” on my profile page. I had no idea the picture was taken by Stockholm Street Style?

Way to catch the stylish! ;)

Back to the grind tomorrow. Have a great week everyone!

xoxo….e

p.s. I’m so ready for Spring! It was nice to have a few hours of sunshine this weekend! I think this is a teaser to make us fene for a little light & brightness!

Show Me Your Hands!

February 7, 2010 · 4 Comments

{From Hussein Chalayan’s SS/10 collection, via Atlantis Home}

The first time I saw these photos, I thought, “There’s no way anyone in the real world would wear this.” I mean don’t get me wrong, I love the artistic aspect of it, and it’s totally thinking outside the box. But I couldn’t imagine seeing anyone on the street strolling by with hands on their clothing.

Well apparently I was wrong.

Even though her “hands” aren’t quite as sculptural, it shows that you can take a high-end runway look and make it your own!

You go Shan Shan! I definitely have to give you props for this one!

Hyped! ;)

It’s a “whatever” kinda day.

February 6, 2010 · 2 Comments

{image via Sugar Pop Tarts}

I’m feeling pretty lackadaisical today. No real plan. Nothing to get dressed for. No errands to run. Just me and Mo chill’n at home, and I guess waiting for something spectacular to happen. Ha,ha…no really.

So here I am, as usual, browsing some of my favorite blogs for some inspiration, and oh I dunno, maybe finding some things to add to my birthday wish list?! ;)

Honestly, my one and biggest wish that I’d like to come true is getting a new JOB! Argh! This drastic cut in my income has definitely put a damper on many of a things, but I will survive. I will continue to search, hunt, and scavenge for it!

Right about now, it’d be nice to have a few great little vintage & antique shops that I could walk to for a little “hazy-dazy” stroll of discovery goodness, and a cute & cozy cafe where I could sit and people watch.

Unfortunately for me, it’s like “The Wire” just outside my door.

Driving it is!

Here’s to the weekend!

Florals…

February 2, 2010 · 3 Comments

and not in the 1991 90210 babydoll dress kinda way.

{scanned by me from Marie Claire Nov. 2009 issue}

Floral patterns are extremely popular right now, and even though this trend has come and gone through the years, and made it’s way back in the Fall of 2009, it’s obvious it will be making it’s way through Spring & Summer of 2010! I walked by H&M’s storefront window yesterday, and on every mannequin was something with a floral print on it! A skirt, a top, a scarf….

And I have succumbed to this popular look myself, and am loving it! It’s slightly nostalgic for me, and brings me back to the early 90’s when floral prints were all the rage!

Here are a few shots that my very good friend Angela (Grace), and I took to share our very different takes on the trend. As I mentioned here, she will be a special feature contributor on my blog. And I can’t wait to see what she ends up sharing with all of us! :)

Enjoy!

p.s. During our little photo shoot in good ‘ol Oakland, two kind gentlemen spotted us taking our photos, and curiously asked what we were taking pictures for, we told them it was for a fashion blog, they kindly offered us to use their rooftop terrace, and we got some pretty cool shots. I only wish we had gotten their names! Well whoever you gentlemen are,

THANK YOU!

The kindness of strangers always amazes me. :)

Smurfette!

February 1, 2010 · 1 Comment

Friday I received my new Jeffrey Campbell Studded Ticks, and I LOVE them! And surprisingly pretty comfy. Oh man, were these bad boys hard to track down! They were either out of my size, or sold out completely! I finally hunted them down at Karmaloop, and actually hesitated on purchasing them at first, but inevitably pulled the trigger! I am currently doing a wardrobe overall, and have been on an “experimenting high” when it comes to my outfits. I have been so inspired in the last few months by my fellow fashion bloggers, and it’s given me the courage to try new things. :)

I wanted to take a few shots sport’n my new kicks, and didn’t put much thought into the outfit, which resulted in me looking like a smurf! All I kept thinking was, “Keep the outfit simple, the shoes can stand on their own!”  But I wanted a punch of color, so I went with my smurf blue tights! It was between these, and a pair of purple ones….I’m thinking I should have gone with the purple ones!

Oh well, at least the shoes are cool! ;)

xoxo….e

p.s…Just a little heads up, in the next few weeks I’ll be introducing a new feature on just “accessories” by my really good friend and fellow fashionista partner in crime, Angela Grace.

She will have a bi-monthly post on the latest trends in accessories and pieces that catch her eye! She will also be featured in my next post tomorrow.

Keep your eyes peeled! ;)

My Outfit:

1. H&M dress

2. Jeffrey Campbell Studded Tick booties

3. Hue “smurf blue” tights

4. Anthropologie ring

5. B.R. multi-chain bracelet

6. Kooba clutch

The End.

Have a great weekend everyone! I hope to take some new outfit pics tomorrow (er actually today, it is after midnight after all).
Hopefully it doesn’t rain! Fingers crossed!

xoxo….e

p.s. Earlier today she helped me dig down deep to find my inner high school girl and go to a “meet/greet” to see Channing Tatum!  His is gorgeous.  And he is my boyfriend. Don’t worry Will is very much aware of this.  wink* wink*  ;)

I had no idea how chaotic it would be! Didn’t get there early enough to actually meet him, but we got a few good pics. My lil sis was a total G and got up in there! She was determined and dedicated! Love her!

We will be going to go see “Dear John” together for her birthday, and drool over him together.
