Monday Inspiration: {Shot of the Day}

My goal recently has been to post an inspiring image or quote every Monday, and I know I haven’t been successful every time, but I promise I will do better!

Which brings me to this amazing photo by local Bay Area photographer, Christina Diaz. When I came across these photos I just had to share!

And with her permission I have. :)

Absolutely stunning. To see more from this day, click here.

Happy Marvelous Monday Lovelies!

p.s. Today is my Miss’ birthday! She just moved to Brussels this past November. Happy Birthday Miss! Love you & Miss You!

A Real Saturday

…for me anyway. ;)

Had the day off today, and the hubby & I took full advantage!

We decided to cash in on our Aunt Mary’s Cafe gift card, (which was a wedding gift from our good friend Val), and treat ourselves to a delicious brunch. Afterward we killed a little time in our neighboring Temescal district, before we headed to the Pixar exhibition @ The Oakland Museum .

WARNING: This is a pretty heavy image post!

{I think this maybe Aunt Mary?}

{The man behind the camera. ;) }

{Note the lovely flea bites on my wrist! Attractive aren’t they?}

{Stopped by Scout and picked up this vintage casino ballroom keychain for $5, and two hilariously adorable cards. Sorry I can’t share them with you guys, they’re for friends that I know read this blog and I want them to be a surrpise! ;) }

We still had some time before the Pixar exhibition began when we arrived at the museum, so we checked out the Gallery of California History.

{Baby BOOM!}

{It always comes down to the arts & music.}

Just a few of the things that caught our eye.

Unfortunately no cameras were allowed inside the Pixar exhibition, but believe me it’s definitely worth checking out, especially if you’re a fan of Pixar movies, or even if you’re not.

You really get to see and appreciate the artistic process that they go through before the technology kicks in to bring the art to life!

I hope you all had as good of a start to your weekend as I have. Tomorrow it’s another early work day for me, so I’m off to get some Z’s!

Don’t forget to enter my GIVEAWAY, you have until next Friday(day) to enter!!  So don’t miss out! ;)

A little late, but it’s here….THE GIVEAWAY!

Hi Everyone! So I know I’m a bit late posting my first ever giveaway, but I had an early work day today, and just picked up your pretty little treasure this evening!

And technically it is still Friday (on the west coast anyway)! ;)

So to celebrate Just A Girl’s One Year Anniversay I am giving one lucky reader this one-of-a-kind vintage necklace!

Isn’t she just pretty?

She was handmade by a local Bay Area jewelry artist named Anne Bast, who is one of the sweetest people I have ever met, and my former Wonderland co-worker (whom I apparently gave a ride home once, but can’t seem to remember ever doing??).

I am so pleased and excited I am able to give one of her pieces as a gift to one of you! :)

She makes all her jewelry from found vintage pieces. This beauty in particular is made with a long vintage chain & rhinestones, adhered to a guitar pick!

How cute & unique is that?

Believe me I was tempted to keep it for myself! ;)

Now, to enter my giveaway….

1. Leave a comment below with your email address

2.  Add Just A Girl to your “Likes” on Facebook

And that’s it folks!

How simple was that? ;)

The winner will be picked at random, and announced on the evening of Friday, November 12th!

Thank you to all who come and stop by, and occasionally leave a comment, you don’t know how much it means to me.

It inspires me to keep doing what I love!

So a big & sincere

THANK YOU!

Have an awesome weekend everyone, and GOOD LUCK! ;)

xoxo….e

p.s. Just A Girl is getting much needed “makeover”, so stop by after the weekend and check her out! ;)

An Afternoon on the West Side…

My day started super early this morning (5:30am to be exact, yes on a Saturday peeps!) , with my alarm blaring with Usher’s “Dj Got Us Fallin In Love”, it was time to get up and get ready for work!

But all day I kept thinking of what I had to look forward to just hours later…

My West Side Story tickets waiting patiently for me on our refrigerator door.

I made sure to wear an outfit I’d be comfortable in at work & appropriate for the show later on (“I feel pretty, oh so pretty, I feel pretty and witty and bright…” ). The rain has been on/off lately here in the Bay, so it made it kind of a struggle to decide on the final outfit.

After my shift I grabbed something quick to eat before I headed home to find my husband still in his “sleeping” attire. He was a bit grumbley and still a bit tired from the night before. Not to mention he had just “de-flea’d” our rug and the smell from the powder had given him a headache.

Poor Mo has been attacked by fleas in the last week or so and it’s been unbearable for her and us for that matter. Not sure how they made their way into our house and onto Mo (she’s an inside cat), but I think the rain has something to do with it.

So I waited patiently, killed some time, and didn’t give him a hard time, I figured he’d shake it off.

I’m giving you a glimpse into our messy and chaotic house at the moment…

After Will made a quick change and rubbed the sleep from his eyes it was off to the show! :)

{Bart, the only way to travel! ;) }

{My tourist shot!}

{No photography or cameras were allowed inside the Orpheum, but I did get to take a quick picture with Michelle Aravena who plays “Anita” after the show.  She is so cute and bubbly.}

The show was amazing (and yes I was snappin my fingers and dancin afterwards!), and I think Will enjoyed it a lot too. He’s not big on musicals, and live theater shows, but I think it’s startin to grow on him. ;)

Off to bed for me, another early shift tomorrow morning, and then hopefully back home for a little down time.

Oh and before I forget,

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

We’re skippin the festivities this year, but maybe we’ll celebrate with some hot cocoa and a scary movie tomorrow night. ;)

A New York State of Mind

As many of you know, I *heart* New York.

As noted here and here.

I catch myself thinking about it every now and then. And now that my Cuzzo (Ange) is there this weekend, discovering the awesomeness that is N.Y, I am thinking of it once again!

Of course the Bay will always be my #1, but  there is something to be said of the energy, the vibe, the hustle & bustle, and the richness of New York city!

I am in love with Soho, it’s such the perfect place to have the best of both worlds. Some of the best of the best thrifting, restaurants, art galleries, and independent boutiques!

These campaign shots taken for Hugo Boss’ Orange collection F/W 2011, capture the essence of N.Y beautifully (the video of the making of the campaign is pretty sweet too, you can view it here.). I first stumbled upon them yesterday after visiting one of my favorite blogs, Lanalou Style. She is an amazing photographer, and mixes & matches the images she captures, and the images by others so perfectly. It gave me the idea to the same. ;)

Let’s take a visit to a little city called New York, shall we?

{This particular image has made it’s way around the blog world. I do have to admit the boots & handbag are gorge.}

New York, a never ending love affair. ;)

Have an amazing weekend lovelies!

I’ll be celebrating Will’s birthday, with a Giant’s game and a cupcake sale with the best freakin vegan cupcakes I’ve ever had!

When Opportunity Knocks…

You swing the door wide open!

It has been a long week for me my peeps! Thank goodness Friday is within grasp!

I’ve been working both jobs almost every day, barely eating full balanced meals, possibly getting about 5 hours of sleep a night, and am running on fumes! I honestly just want to fall into a peaceful slumber.

I guess those 13 hours of sleep I got last weekend weren’t quite enough Z’s for me! Ha!

But there is a silver lining to this sagging cloud my lovelies, which won’t allow for more sleep, but will definitely get the creative juices flowin! Today I started my fashion intern position with a local bay area magazine! I will be helping out with styling for their upcoming Fall fashion photo shoot, and I am…

totally stoked about it!

My friend Deborah who works for this magazine company, showed the magazine’s creator my blog after learning she needed a fashion intern for this shoot. I am so grateful to her for referring me. I met with the creator, Aspen today and thought it would be more of just a meet & greet and a run down of what my responsibilities will include, but instead I ended up starting on my duties about 20 minutes after meeting with her! It was awesome, and she is such a sweet lady (it is actually a husband & wife team), with lot’s of great energy. She seems just as excited as I am about the photo shoot! She showed me some of her ideas in terms of style and certain pieces that caught her eye, one being Betsey Johnson’s Fall 2010 collection, which I am totally loving! I love Betsey Johnson for her playful whimsy and always seem to end up with one of her dresses for special occasions?

The style of the photo shoot is “Tribal Bohemian”, and I’d say with a touch of Edwardian chicness! As Aspen was drawn to the Edwardian inspired jackets with the slightly puffed shoulders and tapered waist (Which I love! I am the puff-shoulder & sleeve queen!).  When I heard the type of style she was aiming for, it instantly made me think of Anna Sui.  She is the queen of ethnic bohemian chic!

We’ll be adding pops of bold color for added fun, and maybe even play with a bit of theatrical make-up?

We’ll see how it goes as we narrow down suppliers and pieces, and as we get closer to the day of the actual shoot!

No rest for the weary my dears, it’s time for me to get my second wind and keep this train movin! ;)

xoxo….e

p.s….What’s funny is this magazine is a dance magazine (Conscious Dancer), which I feel is kinda ironic, being that dancing was my passion growing up for a long time, and is still one of my great loves that I keep close.

My two worlds have in a way, met.

Girls With Glasses

Came across this video, and thought it was simply adorable.

I remember Brooke from A.I. too.

Happy Monday!

Mo in “Hipstamatic”!

Of course she had to be the first test subject! ;)

I had Will download this app to his iphone today, it’s so much fun! I’ve been wanting a hipstamtic camera, or a Fuji Instax for awhile now, but instead of paying $50-$130, we got the iphone app for only $1.99!

Sweet.

I’m sure eventually I’ll still purchase one or the other one of these days, but for now this will do.

Nighty night!

Here’s to a speedy work week! ;)
